CBRE CEO also serves on Board of Staples

Buried in the story is an interesting fact that no one seems to have noted before: CBRE CEO Robert Sulentic also serves on the board of Staples, a position for which he received $300,000 in 2011. “Asked whether he had played a role in the retailer’s USPS pilot program, a USPS spokesperson answered that the program ‘was solicited publicly through a [Request for Proposals].’  CBRE answered, ‘Mr. Sulentic is not involved in the day-to-day management of Staples,’ and referred questions regarding Staples’ programs to Staples   Comments (Count)

 In 2012, the U.S. Department of Labor  sued USPS for retaliating against a Safety Specialist at the Seattle, Washington P&DC. The DOL notification included an “admonishment to refrain from destroying documents or records that might be requested by OSHA. Tacoma police on Wednesday arrested a postal carrier accused of sexually harassing and inappropriately touching several women for years on his delivery route.

 

USPS proposes to revise rules to involve communities more when relocating post offices - Under the proposed rule, the Postal Service will continue to notify communities and officials, and to solicit and consider input regarding proposals to relocate retail services or to add a new retail services facility.

 

Postal Service begins expanding into 1500 Staples

When the Postal Service said in July that it was not going ahead with the Staples pilot, the APWU called the announcement a “ruse.” "This attempt at trickery shows that the 'Don't Buy Staples' movement is having an effect,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. “We intend to keep up the pressure until Staples gets out of the mail business.” It looks like Mr. Dimondstein was right. The Postal Service may have retreated from the pilot to put mini-post offices in 82 Staples, but it is going right ahead with expanding into 1,500 Staples, just under a different program. Within a few weeks, a sign like the one in the Second Avenue Staples store will be showing up in Staples across the country.

USPS gets approval for ‘customized delivery’ market test of groceries, other prepackaged goods - On September 23, 2014, the Postal Service filed a notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) announcing its intent to conduct a market test of an experimental product called Customized Delivery. Next in postal privatization: Goin Postal counters in 2,000 Walmarts

The Goin Postal pack-and-ship company has signed a deal to put small postal stores inside of 2,000 Walmarts. While the Postmaster General will probably say it's all about customer convenience, the deal represents yet another step in the privatization of the Postal Service. These postal stores, it should be noted, aren’t exactly the same as the mini-post offices that the Postal Service tried piloting in 82 Staples late last year. The Goin Postal stores are part of the USPS Approved Shippers program, which consists of stores that can also offer FedEx, UPS, DHL, and anything else they want. Postal Service calling on retired employees to help during holiday season

Officials with the United States Postal Service announced this week that retired city carriers can temporarily return to their jobs during the peak-mailing season.
